The WHITE family originated in Leicestershire in the early 1800s, in 1837 some moved to Nottingham. In the early 1900s some moved to Lancashire, and others emigrated to the US and Canada. If you think we are relaated, please email us, we will be pleased to hear from you.
Jim was born in Manchester UK but his branch of the family migrated from Leicestershire in the early 1800s to Nottingham and then Manchester. Some of them went to New York in the 1920's and one branch returned to the UK in the thirties. The name Derry was given as a second name in every generation from 1805 when James White married Sarah Derry, to the present, the latest is Kai Derry White, born February 10 1999. Jim's Father, also Jim was in the first world war, he started out in "The Manchester Regiment, transferred to 'The Royal Flying Core" after being blown up and was one of the first members of the Royal Air force, his son Jim ( this page Jim) was in the Royal Engineers in WW2.
I was born in Middleton Lancs, my family lived in the same Street for over a hundred Years. When the children married they set up there own houses in Chapel Street. I was a Nurse at "The Royal Eye and Ear Hospital Bradford Yorks, Hope Hospital Salford and Warrington Infirmary. We had a Coronation baby when we lived in Middleton which is our only claim to fame.
I have copied the Bishops Transcripts of Marriages, Baptisms and Burials for the names SMITH, MOORS, HORRIDGE and BOOTH for St Leonard's Middleton Lancs, the church in which we, my parents, Grand-Parents and Great Grand-parents were married. Jim had his own dance band during the 40's and 50's in the Manchester area.. We are looking for recordings and photos.
